A human being is a part of the whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts, and feelings as something separated from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Humanity Conference and a declaration of humanity

World-renowned scholars, thinkers, and social activists were brought together in Seoul, Korea on June 15, 2001 to attend the First Annual New Millennium World Peace Humanity Conference, exploring the concrete influence that sprirtuality can have in our current political, economic, and cultural makeup. New Millenium Peace Foundation (MNPF), a nongovernmental, independent organization founded by Ilchi Lee and Neale Donald Walsch in 1997, invited prestigious academics, journalism, culture, environment, and most importantly, human capacities to make presentations and engage in discussions with the participants.
