Dahn Yoga for MS

The spirit of giving back

Dahn Yoga for MS is an initiative inspired by Cathy Downie. Cathy suffered with MS for 13 years and is now volunteering her time to spread Brain Education System Training (BEST) principles and tools in the form of Dahn Yoga to people who are suffering from the symptoms of MS.

As a member of the Glendale Dahn Yoga Studio in Arizona, Cathy was able to alleviate her MS symptoms through various BEST programs including Dahn Yoga, Dahn Mu Do, Dahn Tai Chi, and Dahn Healer School among others.

The Dahn Yoga for MS program consists of stretching, breathing, and self acupressure techniques. The various poses open the joints and improve the overall blood and energy circulation throughout the body. The results are not only a reduction in muscle pain, but also spasticity, and fatigue while boosting energy and stress management.

Choosing Happiness

“Many people feel that they can only be happy and peaceful when they are given the right circumstances and conditions. However, we can be at peace and be content in this moment now, at this place now. This is our choice. There is nothing that is blocking this choice. Only our thoughts are obscuring this choice. Why can’t we be content and happy without conditions? Enlightenment is a choice that continues from instant to instant, from moment to moment.”

Change

“Transience is the most general phenomenon of the cosmos. Change is the only changeless reality. Seasons, livelihoods, personal relationships—all of these will change. Our experiences in life are transient and relative. Only death is certain, completing the cycle of life that begins with birth. By meditating upon this truth, we recognize that we, too, are manifestations of transience. When we understand this teaching deeply, we become humble and sincere. We treasure each moment and endeavor to do our best. We feel less stress and become more accepting of the diverse phenomena of life. If something “good” happens we can feel the joy and be thankful. But we know that the conditions for the situation will not last forever, and we do not become attached to the feeling. We will simply consider every moment and every experience as a blessing.”

You Are the Master of Your Brain

The great news is that you have infinite power to change and refine your brain. A few decades back,  scientists thought that people could have very little influence over their brains.

It was assumed that by the time people reached adulthood their brain connections were permanently and indelibly in place. In childhood, one might be able to exert some influence over the development of the brain, but for the most part these things were genetically determined.

It was thought that the old adage “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” was literally true.
More recently, scientists have discovered that the opposite is true. There is a quality to the brain called neuroplasticity that allows you, right up to the end of your life, to restructure and adapt your brain according to your needs.

You can learn new things and adapt to new environments, even inextreme old age.

An Evolutionary Masterpiece

You can look at your brain as a microcosm that contains everything you have been and holds the potential of everything you will become. The brain is unique when compared with other organs because it is the only one that exerts influence on the world outside your body as well as inside your body. It is also the only organ that can be used to understand itself, and it is the only organ that can modify itself.
You already know that your brain holds and stores many experiences from your past. Even if you are eighty, you probably still retain some strong memories from your child-hood, and even if you haven’t ridden a bicycle for many years, you probably could ride one today without much trouble.

Yes, some things are forgotten, but there is no doubt that the experiences you have had in the past and the things you learned long ago all have played a role in shaping your brain and making you who you are today.

Ilchi Lee on Brain Wave Vibration

Ilchi Lee says in his new book, Brain Wave Vibration.

As you practice, hold in your mind a picture of the person you want to be. Visualize the picture in full color with every minuscule detail in place. At first this image of your perfected self may not be very clear to you. You may be undecided as to who you really want to be. If this is the case, don’t worry. It is natural at the beginning of any journey. You don’t know what the Grand Canyon is like until you go there, right? But you can imagine it, and that imagination is an important part of what will propel you toward it.

Just focus intently, and soon you will become clearer and clearer to yourself. You can start with a general idea of who you want to be by setting small, attainable goals. As you gain confidence and awareness, your true identity will becoming increasingly obvious, like an image emerging on a Polaroid photograph.

Most importantly, always remember that this training is for you. You are not doing it to please anyone or to gain anything from someone else. This is a precious moment with yourself in a world that is always calling you outside yourself. Even five minutes of practice can become eternal if you allow yourself to go deep inside to explore the infinite landscape within you.

I wish you great joy and peace as you embark on your journey of discovery.

Ilchi Lee on central message

You could say that one central message is coming forward: you are more powerful than you think. The remarkable worldwide success of the film The Secret shows how ready humanity finally is to hear this message. The trick will be for us to get past our own self-limiting thinking, which so commonly blocks the expression of this amazing power that we hold.

Ilchi Lee says he is here to teach you Brain Wave Vibration, which exists to reveal one simple fact: everything you need is already in you. You might have questions on how you can utilize the brain well. If so you can use Ask Ilchi Lee at Ilchi Lee’s website.

Life is vibration.

People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life… I think that what we’re really seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our innermost being and reality, so that we can actually feel the rapture of being alive. Joseph Campbell, mythologist

Information and growth of life

This morning, I read excerpts of Ilchi Lee on Information and growth of life. It’s quite interesting to compare information with food of the brain. We should manage the quality of food to my brain. I usually take great care of what I eat. I don’t like to eat meat very much, even though I am not a vegetarian. I very rarely eat McDonalds or other fast food. I try to eat three meals a day, even when I am very busy. However, I am prone to play with negative information very much. I think my brain is, to a certain point, addicted to the negative information. So I shall take care of my brain well so that it always eats good food.

Anyway, I did Brain Wave Vibration training yesterday too. I had some negative information to shake away from my brain. So I gently shaked my head, lying on my bed. I think it was a bit lazy to do the Brain Wave Vibration training lying down, but anyway, that’s what I did.

I got greater effect when I do it with my mouth open. When I close it and do the training, I feel my brain is not relaxed and see less effective. Plus, I try to smile always. I want to make it my habit to smile always. When I smile, I feel my brain is much more relaxed and I find myself become calmer and able to see things from a distance. I heard that smiling is a great brain exercise.

Ilchi Lee on Brain Resonance

Brain Resonance

All of your five senses are dependent on messages in the form of vibrations reaching your brain. But you may have one more sense of which you are less aware. You have felt this sense if you have ever had your mood affected by someone else. Perhaps you were in a persistently glum mood, and suddenly a cheerful person lifted you out of your cloud. Or maybe the opposite happened, and someone’s internal anger contributed to your own growing sense of irritation.

This phenomenon stems from the brain’s tendency to resonate in accordance with other brains. You know already that your brain produces vibrations called brain waves. This cannot be directly observed, but I believe that these brain waves literally interact with other brains as we interact with people. Thus, we have an effect on others, and they have an effect on us before we have even said a word. And of course, our eventual words and actions in the world will also follow the dictates of these waves.
